Business Technology is all about Speed

It just dawned on me how the craft of my business is all about speed.  As a software/database developer I manage hundreds of thousands (possibly hundreds of millions) of data points.  My job is to filter, sort, aggregate, calculate, print, chart, update, delete, etc. all of that data into manageable chunks.  The code I write manages data that was not possible ten years ago.  Speed is king.  Luckily some of my clients see that as well.  As for compensation, though, milk is king.  All the more reason to be the one writing the checks.
